In 2004, Ryan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba.
Illustrating his academic excellence through awards such as the Neil James McDonald
Memorial Prize for the highest mark in criminal law, the Archie Micay Q.C. for the second
highest standing, the David and Myrna Bowman Prize for the highest standing in Evidence
and the Irvin Goldman Prize for excellence in criminal law, criminal procedure and clinical
criminal law, Ryan chose early on to specialize in criminal law. Beginning as a summer
student with Brodsky & Company in 2002, Ryan continued with the firm throughout his
articling year and after his call to the bar. Ryan was a member of the Legal Aid
law clinic at the University of Manitoba and continues to be a member of the Criminal
Trial Lawyer’s Association.
Ryan has appeared at every level of court in Manitoba, including the Provincial Court,
the Court of Queen’s Bench and the Manitoba Court of Appeal.
